Its growth has come strictly by word of mouth as they do not advertize or hold any special outreach events. Also recognized as pioneers in the multi-site movement, North Coast now offers 24 worship options on five local sites each weekend plus numerous national and international venues. Larry writes and speaks extensively on the subjects of leadership, healthy teams, innovation, multi-site ministry and spiritual formation. His books include, Sticky Church, 10 Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe, Spirituality for the Rest of Us, and The Unity Factor.
Groups 3 and 4 have another meeting November 17-20, 2008! We are putting the plans together.
If you look to the column on the left, you will see a small section on our Mentor Pastors for our meeting in November.
Mentor pastors are an important part of our meeting and our program. They are pastors who have a heart for helping younger pastors be successful - giving advice based on their past success and failure.
Here is a list of pastors who will be joining us in November:
Pastor Mark Driscoll Mars Hill Church, Seattle, WA Mark Driscoll founded Mars Hill Church in Seattle in the fall of 1996, which has grown to over 6,000 people in one of America’s least churched cities. Mars Hill is a multi-site church currently meeting in 7 locations with 20 weekly services. In 2008 Mars Hill Church was named the the 2nd most innovative church in America (Outreach Magazine). Mark has also co-founded the Acts 29 Church Planting Network, which has planted over one hundred churches in the U.S. and internationally, and founded the Resurgence Missional Theology Cooperative which provides resources to church planters and pastors at theresurgence.org. Outreach magazine has recognized Mars Hill Church as the fifteenth fastest-growing church in America and has also ranked Mars Hill Church number two of America’s top multiplying (church-planting) churches. The Church Report has recognized Pastor Mark as the twenty-second most influential pastor in America. His sermons are downloaded five million times a year and he has been recognized by Christianity Today, Inc., as one of the most influential young preachers in America. Seattle magazine has named Pastor Mark as one of the twenty-five most powerful people in Seattle. Media coverage on Pastor Mark and Mars Hill varies from National Public Radio to Mother Jones magazine, the Associated Press, the New York Times, Blender music magazine, Outreach magazine, Preaching Today, and Leadership magazine to ABC Television. In 2008 Mark published six books including bestseller Vintage Jesus and Death by Love. He also contributed to Above All Earthly Powers, edited by Dr. John Piper.
Pastor Greg Surratt Seacoast Church, Mount Pleasant, SC Greg is the founding pastor of Seacoast Church, one of the early adopters of the multi-site model. Seacoast has been recognized by various media as an innovative and influential thought leader in future strategies for church growth and development. Seacoast combines a unique approach to highly participatory worship with a heart for missional evangelism. Greg calls their weekends a “practical, spirit filled, but non-spooky, yet kind of mystical worship experience, done in multiple locations, very inexpensively.” Sounds a little strange, but it seems to be working. Seacoast currently has 29 weekend worship experiences in 13 separate locations. Greg is also a founding board member of the Association of Related Churches (ARC), a church planting network that has given birth to 60 churches in the last 6 years.

Here are some resources developed from our previous Next Generation Pastors’ Groups. Please check them out!
Communicating With the Postmodern Culture: Authenticity and Truth! “Wow is out; real is in.” Next Generation pastors have observed a significant shift in the culture. Pastor Toby Slough observes, “If we’ll invest the time and effort we used to spend in ‘Wow!” and put those resources into authenticity, people will come in droves, and they’ll respond to even the most demanding truths in the Scriptures.” Creating a Culture of Balance: A Mandate for Next Generation Pastors This concept paper exposes many of the stresses and struggles that next generation pastors—senior pastors in their 20s and 30s who are growing in influence and impact—are dealing with, and opens conversations to creating a balance between the demands of a busy schedule, a growing congregation and maintaining spiritual vitality.
Balancing Ministry Demands: an Interview with John Jenkins Walk through a week with next generation pastor, John Jenkins as he discusses the importance of finding balance amidst the many stresses and demands of ministry. By establishing boundaries and setting priorities after an eye opening life crisis John has found a healthy balance in his ministry as the pastor of First Baptist Church of Glenarden.

Historically, Leadership Network has consistently sought out ministry thought leaders who blaze the trail for those who follow. Innovative leadership is one of the critical elements essential to the health, growth and multiplication of faith communities in North America and globally. The Next Generation Pastors Leadership Community exists to create relational peer networks of senior pastors who share similar ministry challenges and desire connections to other leaders serving in similar ministry situations. Beyond relational connections, senior pastors have opportunities to exchange ideas and ministry methodologies, deepen personal leadership qualities, and to encourage and pray for one another.
Next Generation Pastors (Life Stages 1) is designed for senior pastors age 25-44, leading a church of 800+ attendance and serving in the lead pastor role for at least 3 years. These leaders are life-long learners desiring mentoring from more seasoned leaders as they work through leadership challenges in the early stages of their ministry careers.
To the left you can see a list of pastors who have joined the current Next Gen groups that are beginning now (Groups 3 & 4). You can also see a list of our alumni pastors who were in our Next Generation Groups 1 & 2.
Leadership Network Since 1984, Leadership Network has fostered church innovation and growth through strategies, programs, tools and resources that are consistent with our far-reaching mission: to identify, connect and help high-capacity Christian leaders multiply their impact.
It is our hope that our investment in high capacity, innovative leaders will result in the distribution of information and ideas to others. Many of the churches participating in our Leadership Communities will become teachers themselves, sharing what they have learned to a broader and larger audience.
