Our next Next Generation Pastors' Leadership Community meeting is coming up on September 13-15, 2010. Here are our Mentor Pastors for the meeting:
Charles Anderson, University United Methodist Church, San Antonio, TX
Graduated Magna Cum Laude from Baylor University, and earned his Master of Divinity degree Magna Cum Laude from the Candler School of Theology at Emory University. Charles has served as the founding pastor of a congregation that grew to over 1200 members in five years. He has also served United Methodism’s congregation adjacent to the campus of Texas A&M University.
Under his pastorate University UMC in San Antonio, Texas, has reconfigured its identity around its Pathway to Discipleship, an intentional system created to put measurable discipleship at the core of what we do. In January 2011, University UMC will start its third campus. That will bring the total to five new church starts or campus extensions in which Charles has been involved. Every congregation Charles has served has grown in membership, worship attendance, missions involvement, and financial generosity. University UMC has become known for its missions of mercy, including its recent 50 Homes in 50 Hours weekend, a community building project that ultimately constructed 70 shelters for Haiti.
Pastor John Jenkins, First Baptist Church of Glenarden, Landover, MD
Pastor Jenkins has served as the senior pastor of the First Baptist Church of Glenarden since 1989. Since his installation, the church membership has grown from 500 to over 9,500. Under his leadership, the church provides more than 104 ministries.
In May 2001, Pastor Jenkins received an honorary Doctorate of Divinity from Southern California School of Ministry. He serves Chairman to Project Bridges, Trustee for Bethel University and Chairman Emeritus to SHABACH! Ministries. He serves on the Board of Directors for Great Dads, Teen Challenge, Skinner Leadership Institute, Greater Prince George’s Business Roundtable and a local bank.
Bruce Miller, McKinney Fellowship Bible Church, McKinney, TX
Bruce did his doctoral work in Postmodernism at the University of Texas at Dallas. In the 1990s, He served in a number of pastoral staff positions at Fellowship Bible Church North under Gene Getz, taught Systematic Theology at Dallas Theological Seminary and planted a rural church in Van Alstyne, TX.
In 1997 Bruce led a team of leaders to found McKinney Fellowship where he serves as the Senior Pastor. Bruce also founded the Center for Church Based Training and Chaired the Board of Directors for 13 years. He has written and produced courses and training materials to develop leaders and plant churches around the world. In 2008 Bruce helped create 3eMcKinney, which unifies the churches of the city to transform our community in the name of Jesus.
Bruce co-authored a book entitled The Leadership Baton and most recently wrote, Your Life in Rhythm. Bruce is currently writing Your Church in Rhythm that will be published by Jossey-Bass in the Leadership Network Innovation series and released in February 2011. Bruce speaks nationally and internationally on topics related to his writing. If there is a racquetball court near by, he offers a challenge to any player.
Larry Osborne, North Coast Church, Vista, CA
Larry Osborne is a senior pastor at North Coast Church, acclaimed as one of the most influential and innovative churches in America. Under his leadership the church has grown from 128 to over 7,500 on a weekend.
Built around sermon-based small groups, North Coast has maintained a participation rate of over 80 percent of its weekend attendance in small groups for over 22 years. Its growth has come strictly by word of mouth as they do not advertize or hold any special outreach events. Also recognized as pioneers in the multi-site movement, North Coast now offers 24 worship options on four local sites each weekend plus numerous national and international venues.
Larry writes and speaks extensively on the subjects of leadership, healthy teams, innovation, multi-site ministry and spiritual formation. His books include, Sticky Teams, Sticky Church, 10 Dumb Things Smart Christians Believe, Spirituality for the Rest of Us, and The Unity Factor.
