Life Stage Pastors Gathering 1.0 Update

We have three leaders who have committed to join us for topical discussions:

• Jim Sheppard of Generis will join us to facilitate a discussion on creating a culture of generosity in churches.
• Geoff Surratt, former Pastor of Church Planting and Multisite Campus Ministries at Saddleback Church will join us to facilitate a discussion on church planting and multisite ministry. Read Geoff’s blog announcement to get the latest scoop on his transition from Saddleback. I just read Geoff’s post today so apparently I’ve invited an unemployed guy to join us as a resource person for the meeting. Another first for Leadership Network! (Always on the cutting edge of innovation folks!) Seriously, Geoff’s a great resource and will be brilliant.
• Meredith Wheeler serves as one of the Executive Leadership Team of ALARM (African Leadership and Reconciliation Ministries).  Meredith’s background includes serving as a local church senior pastor, college VP and a range of other ministry leadership roles. Meredith will lead a discussion on pastoral transitions.
• Steve Stroope, Senior Pastor at Lake Pointe Church in Rockwall, TX

Rick Warren was invited to join us for dinner on the first evening and responded with a big “YES, I’m coming.” Rick was kind enough to join us for the last meeting of our Next Generation Pastors – Group 5. We’re excited that he’s excited about joining us again. 

Additional resource people have been invited to join us to facilitate other topical discussions during our two days together. We will inform you with the details as we hear from them.

Life Stage Pastors Gathering 1.0

This is for those of you who are (past and present) a part of our Life Stages groups - Next Generation Pastors, Senior Pastor 2 and Next Chapter. We want to thank you for participating in our Life Stage Leadership Community experience. We think it’s about time to gather all of the groups together and catch up on the latest. We have had nine different Life Stage senior pastors’ groups since 2006 - a little over 100 pastors total! We would like to invite all of our senior pastors, past and present, as well as all of our mentor pastors, to join us in California on March 26-28, 2012. This will be a time of remembering, a time of joy and a time of learning. 

Some of the details are still being worked out, but we wanted to make sure you know about this event as soon as possible. Here is what we do know:

Event Information:

The gathering will begin with dinner at 5:00 pm on Monday, March 26, location to be determined. Your spouse is welcome to accompany you to the dinner. 

Tuesday, March 27, the meeting will begin at the Sheraton Carlsbad, Carlsbad, CA. Senior pastors and mentors only please. A light breakfast will available at 8:30 am. We will get started at 9:00 am and continue until 6:00 pm. Dinner will be on your own.

The meeting begins at 9:00 am again on Wednesday, March 28, at North Coast Church, Vista, CA. The meeting concludes Wednesday at 4:00 pm.

It is 2011 and our Life Stage groups are going strong!

We have started 2 groups this year and are already working on putting together new groups!

Next Generation Pastors' Leadership Community is in the middle of our Group 5. They had their third meeting in March. We had a lot of fun and it was great to see the group together again.

The great news is we are putting together our sixth group of Next Gen pastors. We already have nine pastors signed up to attend the first meeting March 19-21, 2012! Pastors in this group will be under 40 years old, serving churches with 800+ weekend worship attendance and have at least 5 years of experience serving in a senior pastor role.

Senior Pastor 2 is up and running as well. We are in the middle of the first group. They just had their third meeting in April. And it went great. What an engaging and fun group. 

We also started the second Senior Pastor 2 group in May! The group came together fabulously! We are excited about the next 2 years with them.

Wayne is also looking ahead to Group 3! As with the previous groups, this group will include senior pastors 45+ years old, serving churches with 2500+ weekend worship attendance. These pastors have at least 10 years of experience serving in a senior pastor role. Wayne is currently interviewing prospects. The first meeting for this group will be March 7-8, 2012. And our Next Chapter Leadership Community had its first group's first meeting in May!

It was exciting and fun. What a great group of guys! The next two years is going to be fantastic. We can't wait to see what they will learn and how they will grow from this group.

Life Stage Update

We are right on track! Each group has started out great or is on the way to a great start!

Our first group, Next Generation Pastors' Leadership Community, Group 5 has had its first meeting that included 16 participants. They met in Dallas on March 15-17, 2010. The group's director, Linda Stanley, is already starting to think about Group 6. If you would like to recommend a senior pastor for this group, please contact Linda at linda.stanley@leadnet.org or 940.483.1787. Pastors in this group will be under 40 years old, serving churches with 800+ weekend worship attendance and have at least 5 years of experience serving in a senior pastor role.

Senior Pastors II, directed by Wayne Smith, had their first meeting on April 28-29, 2010 with 11 participants. He is already recruiting for the second group. This group will include senior pastors 41-49 years old, serving churches with 2500+ weekend worship attendance. These pastors have at least 10 years of experience serving in a senior pastor role. Wayne is currently interviewing prospects. The first meeting for this group will be November 10-12, 2010. Wayne Smith will also be directing our Next Chapter Leadership Community. This group will include senior pastors 50-59 years old, serving churches with 3000+ weekend worship attendance. These pastors have at least 20 years of experience serving in a senior pastor role. Wayne is currently interviewing prospects. The first group meeting will be in Dallas on November 3-4, 2010. LIFE STAGE ANNOUNCEMENT

Next Generation Pastors Groups were the first in Leadership Network’s vision for serving peers in similar age and stage of ministry. We are pleased to announce the launch of two new Life Stage Pastors Groups in 2009: Senior Pastors II and Senior Pastors – Next Chapter.

Wayne Smith will be directing Senior Pastors II. This group will include senior pastors 41-49 years old, serving churches with 2500+ weekend worship attendance. These pastors have at least 10 years of experience serving in a senior pastor role. Wayne is currently interviewing prospects. The first group meeting will be in Dallas on April 28-29, 2010. Wayne Smith will be directing Senior Pastors – Next Chapter. This group will include senior pastors 50-59 years old, serving churches with 3000+ weekend worship attendance. Why others want to be a part of the Life Stage Leadership Community?

"I really desire to learn from others. I have so greatly benefited from Leadership Network through Forums and our Multi-site LC. We are pretty isolated here and though we communicate well with other large churches here, the fact that we are so much larger than everybody else makes us teachers. I’m fine with that, but I also desire to learn from others, particularly those who in my stage of life that are leading churches over 3000 in attendance. I also feel the need to just get away for a day or two every three months to just detach and think. The value of the LC is great for this. I also want to hear what others in my same life stage are thinking about for their futures. I don’t want to stay too long in this role, and I want to be open to other avenues of ministry beyond this role. I may want to continue doing what I am doing until I’m 65, but only if that is the best thing for me and for this church."
